Today in Rock History April 26, 1986 Van Halen’s seventh album 5150, their first album with Sammy Hagar, hit #1 in the US for the first of three weeks on the strength of the lead single Why Can’t This Be Love. 5150 (named after Eddie Van Halen’s home studio) was certified multi-platinum and produced several hits, with the lead single “Why Can’t This Be Love” reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

Today in Rock History April 21, 1986 Journey released their ninth studio album, Raised on Radio. It marked a major shift for the band, as founding bassist Ross Valory was replaced by Bob Glaub and later Randy Jackson. Drummer Steve Smith contributed to some tracks but was replaced by session drummers Larrie Londin and Mike Baird for the tour. The album produced three top 20 singles, including “Girl Can’t Help It,” “I’ll Be Alright Without You,” and “Suzanne.” It peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and earned double platinum certification in the U.S.

Today in Rock History April 5, 1984 Steve Perry released Street Talk featuring the hit singles “Oh Sherrie,” “Foolish Heart,” “She’s Mine,” and “Strung Out.” The album also paid homage to Perry’s earlier band, Alien Project; the name “Street Talk” was originally intended for that group. It was a commercial success, peaking at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 and earning Platinum certification. “Oh Sherrie” became Perry’s signature solo hit and remains one of the most recognizable songs outside of the Journey catalog.

On this day, 51 years ago - March 19, 1975 - KISS released Dressed To Kill ⚡️ This album set the stage.
