HOW TO LOOP $BTC ON ROOT FINANCE ���� (estimated reading time 3 minutes)
Hey #RootFinance and #RadixFamily, today we are going to explore another beautiful strategy in the realm of Lending & Borrowing: looping using DCA. 🌱
The concept of looping aims to increase your asset positions by utilizing leverage in strategic market moments with an L&B market like @RootFinanceXRD by just HODLing your assets. 💎
So let's make an easy example that even your dear grandpa can understand. 👴

1. Let's imagine that you have supplied 1 $BTC at a price of $70,000 on Root Finance.
Then you conduct a thorough analysis and realize that $BTC might go down in price.
2. As you foresaw, $BTC has dropped to $50,000 and it's finally time to loop the position: you take out a loan of $20,000 in $USDC against your supply and immediately swap it for $BTC using a DEX. By doing so, the 20k $USDC becomes 0.4 $BTC.
3. At this point, since you have opened a borrow position on Root, you should check all the parameters and the risks of being liquidated.
Let's summarize it:
- Your supply: 1 $BTC | 50k USD
- Your borrow: 20,000 $USDC | 20k USD
- Your current LTV: 40%
- Your Borrow Power Used: 57.14%
Parameters for #BTC:
- MAX LTV on BTC: 70%
- LIQUIDATION THRESHOLD on BTC: 75%
Your position seems pretty healthy, but you must remember that crypto can be volatile, so let's calculate the price of liquidation of $BTC to be 100% sure.
That's how you do it:
Liquidation Price = Borrow Value / Liquidation Threshold
= 20,000 / 0.75 = 26,666 USD.
So now we know that if $BTC reaches the 26,666 USD mark, you'll be liquidated.
4. But you are DeFi savvy and want to be even safer, so you decide to re-supply on Root with your former borrow of 20k $USDC that you have swapped into 0.4 $BTC.
By doing this master move, your overall position will change significantly and look like this:
- Your supply: 1.4 $BTC | 70k USD
- Your borrow: 20,000 $USDC | 20k USD
- Your current LTV: 28.57%
- Your Borrow Power Used: 40.82%
- New Liquidation Price: 19,047 USD.
5. Now you have two ways to operate: if $BTC plunges even more, you can DCA by looping again, but in this case, you must be aware that you are increasing the overall risk of your position, so always remember to do your math! 🔢
In the opposite scenario, if $BTC surges in price, for example, reaches the 70k value again, you can decide to keep holding the position until it reaches your bullish targets or consolidate your gain.
Let's see how to do that:
First, let's analyze the overall position at the current $BTC price:
- Your supply: 1.4 $BTC | 98k USD
- Your borrow: 20,000 $USDC | 20k USD
- Your current LTV: 20.41%
- Your Borrow Power Used: 29.15%
Now we need to withdraw from our supply of 1.4 $BTC the exact amount of $BTC that will have the value of 20k USDC, which is 0.2857 BTC.
Next, you will have to swap the 0.2857 $BTC on a DEX for 20k USDC.
Once you have done that, you can repay your loan in full.
You can now see that you still have 1.1143 $BTC after repaying the loan in full! You actually made an amazing gain of 0.1143 $BTC, which is 8,001 USD at the current BTC price!!!
And also, your overall position without the loan is 78,001 USD (you started from 50,000 USD)!!!
But the most amazing thing is that you haven't sold a penny in all this! You just #HODL and #DCA like a true DeFi master using the power of Lending and Borrowing! 🚀🚀🚀
