A farmer doesn't skip a tractor because it rained less in July. He skips it because the harvest paid less — and the kharif harvest hasn't come in yet. What did move in September is the festive calendar: FADA itself flagged the delayed festive season. Last year Navratri demand sat inside September. This year it slides into October. A chunk of that 12.6% is purchases waiting, not purchases cancelled.
(tbh the two 12.6%s matching is a coincidence. Don't read anything into it.)
Meanwhile the rest of auto is flying — two-wheelers and cars up 31.8% YoY to 2.54 million units, still riding last year's tax cuts. Rural stress and urban boom, same month, same dealer body.
So October's tractor number carries both tailwinds at once: festive demand finally landing, plus first harvest cash. If it bounces back toward the 88k August level, September was timing. If it stays near 77k with the festive season inside it, the monsoon story is real — and it won't stay confined to tractors.
October's FADA print settles this, not September's.
