Every house member should have voted for #SB31 Life of the Mother Act, just as every senator did. We should all celebrate saving our mothers, even when, tragically, we aren’t also able to save the baby. More #AbolishAbortion nonsense. #txlege

#sb31 is not even the bare minimum. If the bare minimum was Hell — this would be hell’s bathroom closet in the basement.
No parade or media slaps on the back for this. Especially insulting while they push through another ban. They’re evil people #txlege especially @Burrows4TX
I'm proudly pro-life — for both our children and our mothers. The Senate's passage of #SB31 clarifies that when a pregnant woman’s life is at risk, doctors can legally act to save her. Honored to co-author this important bill and thank @SenBryanHughes for his leadership. #txlege

We’re deeply grateful to @SenBryanHughes for championing #SB31, the Life of the Mother Act.
This important bill gives doctors confidence to provide care when a pregnancy threatens a woman’s life or health — ensuring women receive the standard of care Texas law allows. #TXLege
I wrote Texas’s Heartbeat Bill. Like every Texas abortion law dating all the way back to the 1800s, the Heartbeat Bill provides a clear exception for medical emergencies.
Sadly, many in the media have pushed a false and dangerous narrative that Texas’s abortion ban does not define “medical emergency,” leading people to believe that doctors have no guidance as to what the term means.
The truth is that the term was already defined in the Texas Health and Safety Code in Chapter 171.002 (3): “Medical emergency" means a life-threatening physical condition aggravated by, caused by, or arising from a pregnancy that, as certified by a physician, places the woman in danger of death or a serious risk of substantial impairment of a major bodily function unless an abortion is performed.”
We’ve all heard devastating stories of women in life-threatening situations not getting the legally required care that they need.
This is unacceptable. In light of this, we introduced the Life of the Mother Act (SB 31) which goes even further to clarify the law and makes sure doctors get adequate training on Texas pro-life laws.
With the help of so many of our friends in the pro-life movement, we passed this bill 31-0 out of the Senate today. #txlege
Thank you to all the Senators and to all the pro-life groups who helped us get this passed:

We’re grateful to @LtGovTX @DanPatrick for his strong, consistent leadership in protecting life in Texas. His statement affirms the importance of #SB31, the Life of the Mother Act — a bill that provides guidance to doctors and hospital attorneys to ensure pregnant women receive the care Texas law allows when facing a threat to their life or health. #ProLife #TXLege

TODAY: The Senate State Affairs Committee voted to advance a revised version of #SB31, a bill which seeks to clarify medical exceptions for abortions in Texas. Reproductive freedom group Free & Just, which had been demanding amendments to it released the following statement.
