Evan Hirakawa (USGS): High frequency simulated ground motions are an important end goal for earthquake engineering. Exascale computing makes modeling them possible. Comparing synthetics with data from moderate sized earthquakes is a means of fixing biases in the model. #SCEC2022
Ettore Biondi (Caltech): The capabilities of DAS for imaging earthquakes and crustal structure are enormous, but so are the data volumes! Careful subsetting and downsampling of the channels, using GPUs for computation and leveraging modern codes definitely help! #SCEC2022
Kayla Kroll (LLNL): We can use earthquake simulators, coupled with reservoir models to model induced seismicity. The Coso geothermal field is a great place to try this (it's right next to Ridgecrest)! A lack of aftershocks there can be reproduced! #SCEC2022

Elizabeth Cochran (@escochran): What can we learn from earthquake catalogs about fault zone properties? Lots! The proportion of non-clustered earthquakes tracks the creep rate on the San Andrews. And hypocenters of the Cahuilla swarm can constraint fault roughness! #SCEC2022
Ashley Griffith (Ohio State): Can we identify fault zone damage that originated from dynamic rupture? Experiments where rocks are compressed sharply under confinement suggest that the sorts of pulverization we find along the San Jacinto fault, suggest that yes, we can! #scec2022
