Diving in the waters of the Aegean to explore the ancient ruins that lie in the bottom of the sea between Kimolos and Melos when all of a sudden this magnificent sea creature photo-bombed me! 🐢 💓 🤿 @LevineRx looking forward to your #SCIP2022 archaeological survey!!!

The lighthouse itself (& its window): a quasi-neoclassical marble monument with some postwar renovations! While #SCIP2022 spends most of our time documenting the archaeology of the ancient world, we give just as much attention to more recent material on our islands!

Another day on the Small Cycladic Islands Project, another beautiful beach! If you look closely, you’ll see a 19th c. lighthouse far in the distance, keeping watch over the straits between Melos, Kimolos, & Sifnos. 🇬🇷🏝 #SCIP2022 #Greece #Archaeology

So what is #SCIP2022 doing on the islands? Melos & Kimolos are surrounded by many small islands that have never been studied systematically. Each of these played important parts in the histories of their larger neighbors & it’s our job to tell their stories! 5/7
