With all this talk today about #Threads, did you know that our building once housed the first fully electric textile mill in the world?
During WWII, the factory produced 1.5 million yards of fabric a week- that's a lot of thread!

The giant steel beams aren't just for aesthetics!
These beams, weighing 40,000 pounds, form the tripod that supports our historic telescope in the Boeing Observatory on the 4th floor.

On this date in 1894, Arethas Blood pulled a switch and started the motors at the Columbia Duck Mill, becoming the first all-electric textile mill in the United States.
Note quite a century later, in October of 1988, this building would become the SCSM.
