#SFFTalk A6) One my sister and I were VERY SAD didn't happen this year (as it's been a plan changes) is that we have prawn crackers in place of normal ones (several years ago, we had to make a quick substitution, and it's stuck!)
We also lacked normal crackers this year
#SFFTalk Last question!
And to wrap this up, what are some of your favorite holidays and traditions?
Don't forget to use the hashtag!

#SFFTalk A5) I actually don't have any holiday snippets (deliberately to avoid pulling people out with the lack of religious change!) so have a military parade instead!

#SFFTalk Question 5!
Share a snippet of a character celebrating their chosen holiday or tradition.

#SFFTalk A3) Yes, it does (Geola)
The reason you hear it talked about vaguely but never in depth and not actually seen is to hide the fact I haven't altered the religion very much from Christianity (because I wanted to talk about it often ignores the biblical nature of aceness!)
#SFFTalk Question 3!
Does Christmas exist in your character's world? If not, what holiday is similar to Christmas?

#SFFTalk A2 Vasilisa's fox book is set in pagan Ancient Rus where education and history weren't centralized, especially not in a rural setting. They're mostly busy staying alive. I intentionally veered away from pinning down the year to reduce plot holes and for fairytale vibes!
Hi #SFFTalk ๐คฉI'm Lesia, I write YA and Adult fantasy and historical romance! My MCs Vasilisa and Kaschey never learned any history and it shows. It's probably accounting for 80% of all their problems. lol
The 16th & 17th century witch trials in Edinburgh, not set in our world but in one where magically gifted people were very powerful and fought back, with huge repercussions.

#SFFTalk Time for our final question!
If you were to write a book based on any historical event (with as many speculative element as you like), what would the book be about?
Don't forget to use the hashtag!

My dream is to write abt a series abt paranormal society that contains members of the Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman, & Russian Empires & spans from 1867-1923s. Their job is to manage the paranormal beings of their lands as their empires rush headlong to disintegration. #SFFTalk

#SFFTalk A6: Forgot there was a final question! One of the characters in my WIP has history stretching back to the American Civil War, and another was turned into a vampire at that time, so that could be really fun to write, how human chaos is fertile ground for the paranormal
People learn via the Church's sermons or local stories, songs, etc. The lucky few can go to university but again the curriculum is vetted by the Church (unless they go to another country for schooling and that invites all kind of scrutiny from the Church's assassins) 1/2 #SFFTalk
#SFFTalk Question 4:
How do people learn about their history?
Is it easy to gain access to that information or are there restrictions in place?
Don't forget to use the hashtag!

The average person knows what the Church wants them to know, but they don't really care either way. The entire book is about Vasily and Andra diving deep into history and uncovering what the Church wants hidden or what was destroyed via the Church and war #SFFTalk
#SFFTalk Question 3:
Do people know (or think they know) the history of their world?
Are there any glaring gaps they're aware of?

what other scientists have discovered about the Demon condition (which is difficult considering the church destroyed most of their research). 2/2 #SFFTalk
History is always affecting everyone's life, even though most people aren't aware. Vasily, who is a historian, & Andra, who is a scientist, engage w/history frequently. Vasily bc he's uncovering the *true* history of the Church & Andra bc she's trying to determine 1/2 #SFFTalk
#SFFTalk Time for question 2!
Is history something everyday people engage with, or are they more focused on the current?
Does your MC's opinion differ from this?

I had a non-speculative WIP set in Renaissance Florence, so Iโd like to finish that one day.
I also have a couple of more speculative ideas around the gunpowder plot, but they arenโt at all fleshed out yet. #SFFTalk

#sfftalk Iโve really enjoyed this chat, great job putting it together. ๐๐ป
Hmm, historical fiction, you sayโฆ I have draft notes on the period circa 1880-1920 when stage magic went from romantic theatrical conjurations to grotesque torture illusions, so that.

#SFFTalk A5: Convinced @SifaPoulton set this question knowing 75% of my draft is illegible/would be some sort of crime to make anyone suffer through reading. Found some actual prose though, and proud of this bit:

Welcome to #SFFTalk! Tonight we're talking about the history of worlds, and how they interact with our stories!
For this first question, please introduce yourself and what you write

And that's the end of #SFFTalk tonight - thank you so much for coming to talk with me!
The next one will be in a fortnight, on the 25th December (yup, Christmas Day!) The time will be confirmed closer to the day
Your host for this holiday-themed bonanza will be @byamberelzinga

Although I'm concentrating on science fiction at the moment, I would LOVE to one day write a book set in the golden age of piracy with a mixture of swashbuckling and fantastical elements! โ ๏ธ Adventure, romance, magic, sea monsters, swords and pistols...the whole lot!

#SFFTalk A6) Slightly cheating as I've already started it, but the reigns of Richard II and Henry IV with (limited because they played havoc with the politics) dragons and magic
Richard v Henry is SO FASCINATING
