Employees at Shone Primary Hospital in the Hadiya Zone of Central Ethiopia Regional State have reported that their salaries for the months of May to July remain unpaid, leading to the suspension of the hospital's services.
Dr. Mohammed Ahmed, Medical Director of Shone Primary Hospital, told Voice of America (VOA) that the issue of unpaid salaries has been raised with higher authorities for several months. "We have not received a prompt response," he stated.
Previously, Addis Standard reported that over 300 staff members at Shone Primary Hospital, went on strike due to two months of delayed salaries.
A physician from Shone Hospital, speaking on condition of anonymity, reported that this marks the third strike this year in the region. "The ongoing non-payment has made it difficult for us to afford basic necessities," the physician stated.

Over 300 staff members at Shone Primary Hospital in the Badawacho district, #Hadiya zone, Central Ethiopia Regional State, have been on strike since June 19, 2024, due to two months of unpaid salaries.
A physician from Shone Hospital, who spoke anonymously, stated that the staff are demanding salaries for May and June. The physician noted that the hospital management and district administration proposed paying only the June salary, which was largely rejected.
Dr. Mohammed Ahmed, Medical Director of Shone Primary Hospital, confirmed the salary issues affecting operations. He said the finance administrator requested workers sign the payroll for both months after receiving their June salaries only.
This strike follows a similar incident in October 2023 in East Badawacho district, where healthcare workers stopped work due to three months of unpaid salaries. Local officials cited a widespread budget deficit affecting newly established regions from the dissolved Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (#SNNPR).
