The Senate election collusion investigation has taken an unexpected turn. Instead of focusing on whether senior politicians played a role in manipulating the 2024 Senate election, the spotlight has shifted to criminal defamation lawsuits threatened against the Internet Law Reform Dialogue (iLaw) for compiling allegations that had already been made public through the Election Commission (EC) and Department of Special Investigation (DSI) probe and widely reported by the media. That distinction matters. The names of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and other senior Bhumjaithai politicians were not revealed for the first time this week. They had already entered the public domain after investigators issued summonses and later recommended charges against 229 individuals, including 138 senators and 91 politicians and political associates. iLaw's contribution was to consolidate existing witness testimony and publicly available information into a single dossier and ask Parliament to scrutinize the investigation.
