As the @OIFrancophonie preparations for their #PhnomPenh summit proceed, it's worth remembering that environmental & climate change activists like Mother Nature Cambodia 5 are still in prison - raising fundamental questions about @Dr_Hunmanet_PM's commitment to the rights & democracy principles underpinning the #Francophonie alliance. Watch @MongabayTV's great film about the @CambodiaMother 5 here: https://t.co/79TA4nX3Lc
#Myanmar#UN envoy #KyawMoeTun breaks down while making an emotional "desperate plea" to global community to "not fail them anymore" as he raised a scarf bearing names of those who died since Feb 2021 #coup. Trembling & choking back tears, he said youngest killed was 2 months old
Every Texas bar has that one guy.
He’s loud. He’s obnoxious. He makes all the women feel uncomfortable. He adds his drink to your tab when you’re not looking.
That’s Ken Paxton — and I don’t know about y’all, but I’m done picking up his tab.
Yet another reason why @Dr_Hunmanet_PM should release the @CambodiaMother 5 before the @OIFrancophonie Summit in Phnom Penh on Nov 15-16. Cambodia needs to convince the world it is turning over a new leaf when it comes to scams and human rights abuses, and releasing the Mother Nature #Cambodia 5 would be an important way to signal that intention.
Cambodia tourism hit by scam image
Cambodia received 2.46 million foreign tourists in the first nine months of 2026, down 43.7% from 4.37 million in the same period last year.
Tourism Minister Huot Hak attributed the sharp decline largely to negative publicity surrounding online scam networks, tensions along the Cambodia-Thailand border and conflicts in the Middle East that have pushed up fuel prices and dampened global travel demand.

This evening at the @FCCThai - see Hun Sen behind the scenes, discussing in detail how he destroyed Pol Pot & the Khmer Rouge. Unseen footage, being shown in Asia for the first time! Starts at 7 pm!
Must see film at the @FCCThai on 28 Oct at 7 pm -- The Strongman and the Last Days of the Khmer Rouge, by Jim Gerrand. A masterpiece with extensive interview footage of @hunsencambodia, only the 3rd time this film has been publicly shown. Don't miss it!
“The Strongman and the Last Days of the Khmer Rouge” presents a fascinating insight into how Hun Sen has wielded political power. This story is told via in-depth interviews with Hun Sen and his colleagues and political adversaries. The film draws upon filmmaker James Gerrand’s own archive of footage shot in Cambodia over the past 40 years. It is a revealing portrait – showing Hun Sen’s principal character traits, his political savvy and capacity for both charm and ruthlessness.
James Gerrand has written for publications including the Far Eastern Economic Review, Bangkok Post, The Australian, Nation Review, National Times, and the Asian Wall Street Journal. During the 1970s and 1980s, he filmed and produced news and current affairs reports for Visnews (UK for worldwide syndication), CBS (America), ABC (America), ABC (Australia) and SBS-TV (Australia).

More than ten years on, @thomasfullerNYT's farewell piece to the region -- Reporting on Life, Death and Corruption in Southeast Asia -- is sadly still as relevant and spot on as ever. The article that everyone should read when they first arrive in SE Asia.
