A more granular look at how India stocks Price-Earnings multiples have expanded since 2019. Reading the box plot: Constructed with all stocks (ex-lenders), not with index since that skews metrics towards largest constituents. The red band is the median. The box represents the 1st to 3rd quartile (the middle 50%). Whiskers show the range, excluding outliers. Note how all the boxes have moved up since 2022 i.e. everything’s gotten more expensive. Large Caps at the P/E level they were at during the aberrant 2021 period (P/Es elevated because the E was depressed due to lockdowns). So, not cheap like we'd have thought. The rest, even more out of whack: Midcaps (+20% higher P/E than lockdown time), Smallcaps (+46%) and Microcaps (+48%). Phew.
