This Erratic is on private land. This makes protection, remediation and storytelling difficult. Federal gov’t could bring “natural monument” laws like they have in Finland. Ask your chosen federal candidate what they think. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic

Your monthly reminder to teach your kids about the historic significance of the Glacial Erratics in Calgary. Quartzite Rock from Jasper, travelled here on glaciers, and sacred sites to the Blackfoot Confederacy. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic #yyc #Airdrie #Balzac #RockyViewCounty
With the Glacial Erratic now cleaned off we've created a new exclusive club. "Club Erratic" a members only club complete with bouncer and velvet ropes. Become a Nose Creek Preservation Society Member today to gain access to this exclusive club. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic #yyc
20,000 years ago there was a landslide in Jasper that droped large Quartzite boulders onto Glaciers in the Athabasca valley below, these glaciers pushed these rocks all the way down here and dropped them all over Alberta as the glaciers melted. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic #yyc
The Nose Creek Glacial Erratic is a geological marvel. It is made of Quartzite rock from the Japer, AB area that was pushed out here by a glacier, only to be dropped in the Nose Creek valley as the glacier receded. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic #yyc #RockyViewCounty #Airdrie #abpoli
Happy to report the family of the graffiti taggers made sure the tags were covered this weekend. Appreciate that the taggers took responsibility for their actions. A great example of community coming together and protecting our natural monuments. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic #yyc
Bound to happen but that was quick. We need “Natural Monument” protections like in Finland. I’ve heard elders say this erratic is part of the Glacial Erratic Train chipped off the Big Rock as described in the Blackfoot story of “Napi and the Rock.” #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic
Well our Glacial Erratic makeover was very short lived. Less than a week and people have already left new graffiti tags on this sacred rock. Please don't. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic #yyc

Small iterative improvements to the Nose Creek Valley. Led by a dedicated group of volunteers. Keep up the great work Creek-Heads! #SaveNoseCreek #SpeakForNoseCreek #SNCerratic
Notice anything different about our Glacial Erratic? Our dedicated members have been reporting the graffiti to the city and it recieved this make-over! We will continue to monitor, report and push for protections for this sacred site! #SaveNoseCreek #SpeakForNoseCreek #SNCerratic
@PaulSeesequasis The @SaveNoseCreek team have been trying to save a similar glacial erratic in Calgary… #SNCerratic

The Nose Creek Park Strategy couldn't come soon enough. Since the "Beddington Erratic" is on Private Property we are unable to put protections in to prevent vandalism. This sacred site continues to be the target of mischievous
shenanigans. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic #yyc
Please don't graffiti the rock. This Glacial Erratic has had an amazing history. Being carried here on a glacier from the Jasper area, a rubbing stone for historic bison, and a waypoint for prehistoric man. Let's treat it as the natural monument it is. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic
Snow might be covering some of the graffiti but there are so many vulgar tags on this Glacial Erratic that we've lost the ancient pictographs that were once on this Natural Monument. We hope one day to get permission to restore this rock. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic #yyc #abpoli
"All of these sacred places were all marked - even the medicine wheels and the way they point - they point to a direction where something else happened," ~ Grant Many Heads, Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park on Siksika. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic #yyc #RockyViewCounty #Airdrie
We have our own Sacred Rock in Nose Creek. Instead of blowing it up, the gov’t of our day is just neglecting it. Allowing graffiti to destroy ancient pictographs. The Feds need policy to protect natural monuments like Glacial Erratics. @ChahalGeorge #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic
Mistaseni was a sacred rock for the First Nations of southern Saskatchewan.
When dams formed Lake Diefenbaker, despite calls to save the rock, the provincial government chose to blow it up.
This is the story of that rock 👇

Looks like @CTVBMacfarlane’s story had an impact, A tour bus full of people came this morning to see this historic natural monument. Wish we could get protections for this site. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic @JyotiGondek @jasmine_mian @ChahalGeorge

Looks like the “Beddington Erratic” is now drawing the attention of tour groups. This group dropped by this morning. We need the Federal and Provincial government to step in and protect this Natural Monument. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic @ChahalGeorge @rebeccakschulz @dtloewen #yyc

I’m two years into this advocacy and still learning. Thank you @CTVBMacfarlane for being so thorough for this story. #SaveNoseCreek #SNCerratic
“They’re directly related to one of our stories of creation. That’s a true Blackfoot marking… these huge stone features that were left behind.” - Jerry Potts (Iron Shirt Culture and Heritage Society)
