Better ep w/ Shane Gillis, definite improvement for this season so far. Helps when someone mildly funny is hosting. A lot of the live stuff sketches weren’t super strong still. Saving graces came from the pre-tapes: Dad’s “It’s My Room Now” & Upfront AC Company #SNLDayAfterReview
Adam Driver episode started out slow (were there any jokes in the cold open?) but improved as it went along. Highlights: Old Friends vid, Chocolate Phallic Shape ShopTV (kinda play on the classic Schweddy Balls Delicious Dish bit) & Marcello’s Week Update piece #SNLDayAfterReview
You knew a Martin & Short hosting means a rocking episode (& that was on top of Brandi Carlile’s performance!) A banger ep w/ highlights = the trading jabs eulogy monologue, Christmas Carol carnage, Father of Bride 8 & the reliable Please Don’t Destroy short 👏🏻 #SNLDayAfterReview
Kinda didn’t know who Jack Harlow was, and can’t really speak to his music, but he did a pretty darn good job in each sketch. What started a bit slow turned out to be a great ep: AA Pixar Pitch, the returns of Drunk Uncle & David S. Pumpkins (called that one!) #SNLDayAfterReview
SNL is back with a good premiere! Miles Teller had a pretty great cold open & monologue (that home video!). Solid sketches w/ the Instagram response game, Nicole Kidman AMC spot & props to newbie Mike Longfellow’s Update piece (liked him from Bring the Funny) #SNLDayAfterReview
The Selena Gomez ep was pretty fun for the wide variety of sketches even if they were all very hit or miss. Highlights included the Old Enough: Long-Time Boyfriend Challenge (probably the best part of the night) and the Steve Martin gag inventor inspiration doc #SNLDayAfterReview
There were a lot of fun moments in the Benedict Cumberbatch episode (i.e. bringing back the mom signs gag, the reclining toilet ad) but I want to put ALL THE EMPHASIS on The Understudy piece. Will keep raving about the massive talent of Chloe Fineman! #SNLDayAfterReview
SNL was back w/ 5-timer Mulaney & though not his strongest ep still many highlights: Fivers Club giving Rudd another nod, Nickelodeon Behind the Slime & another fun Please Don’t Destroy vid. You knew the NYC musical number was coming, which can be hit or miss. #SNLDayAfterReview
Keegan-Michael Key is a true talent & his excitement to host was infectious. You KNEW he’d give his all but the material wasn’t there. Maybe the brilliant K & P show set too high a bar vs live sketch. Like why do we need that tired “Gemma” singing duo sketch?? #SNLDayAfterReview
Having not seen Bridgerton wasn’t super familiar w/ host Rege-Jean Page but applaud his commitment in one of the more random eps this season (see: Brit Ice Cube, Bar Guys song chat, absurdist Job Interview). A nice change of pace from the political/topical fair #SNLDayAfterReview
The Liev Schreiber episode surprised me. Non-funny people usually don’t bring high hopes but some fun highlights last night including the “shared hates” unity song, the extremely accurate “Poddys” podcast awards and the delightfully absurd House Hunters parody. #SNLDayAfterReview
Matt Damon as a spot-on Kavanaugh, Kanye as a Perrier Bottle, F-bombs dropped, blatant nudity, a lot of Pete Davidson love life talk and a jokingly (but oddly accurate) look at Vermont. That was some #SNL premiere! #SNLDayAfterReview
#SNL alum back to host is always a formula for a sure-fire hit episode, so was the case w/ definite all-star #BillHader . Stefan always hilarious & enjoyed the #Irish dating game sketch. Only tiny weak moment was the Sedona alien one but great episode overall! #SNLDayAfterReview
