@SOActuaries A8. #SOATalksMortality. Since 1980, the US has been lagging further and further behind other high-income democracies. US men and women live about 3 years less than the average inhabitants in Western democracies and 5-6 fewer years than the average Japanese.

@SOActuaries I have a theory that the last 4 years has been very bad for health. It builds slowly but the stress will add to mortality directly and indirectly for the rest of our lives. We may not see it yet but may be something to look for in future years. #soatalksmortality

@SOActuaries A7 #SOATalksMortality I am still amazed, and hats off to science and the medical community, at how we continue the downward trends of mortality from heart disease and cancer.

@SOActuaries Any thoughts about the virus taking out the sickest and leaving the healthiest behind - potentially setting up some strong future mortality (assuming virus gets vaccinated to the point of being a non issue) #Soatalksmortality

@SOActuaries A5. #SOATalksMortality COVID-19 has injected a lot of extra mortality directly, and we can see how deaths rose rapidly in April:

@meepbobeep @SOActuaries #soatalksmortality I'd like to see the government tables add 85-94 and 95+ tables. These are the splits used during 1918 pandemic analysis and should be updated.

@SOActuaries A3. #SOATalksMortality. Up until 2014, the death count increased ONLY because of population change (increase in population size and in the proportion of older people), while the risks of dying have continued to fall in the general population.
