@PedsPainMed @TAnthonyAnders1 Q5: #sppmchat despite the evidence or lack there of... anecdotally, IV acetaminophen works wonders postoperatively for many of our patients- for this reason I still use it in the PACU. On the floor, after initial recovery will use PO around the clock.
#SPPMchat we didn't compare iv and po acetaminophen, but showed that, iv acetaminophen decreases opioid side effects and length of stay. So helpful for major but not worth it for minor procedures

I think it is very important to also include anti anxiety behavioural integrative medicine therapies even for acute pain after surgery, and possibly even before surgery
@DeepaKattail 0.5-1.0 mcg/kg dexmedetomidine. Yes, I adjust for expected amount of postop pain and other analgesics used. Based on the results of a meta-analysis in children, I give at least 0.5 mcg/kg to most children intraop #SPPMchat

@PedsPainMed Q3 #SPPMchat all kids discharged home on opioids are seen by pain service in hospital and have a weaning plan and get followed up by phone. We only dispense what’s needed and no repeat scripts

Every (almost) patient of mine receives acetaminopen and dexamethasone as baseline intraop analgesics, then some intraop combination of ketorolac, dexmedetomidine, ketamine, lidocaine infusion, magnesium, esmolol infusion (preop pregabalin in some patients). #SPPMchat
