why exactly? Dusty May is not the answer brother.

🌍🔬 Conference: Research Infrastructures in a Changing World
The environment, the economy… our world is changing! This Tuesday, as part of the Belgian Presidency of the European Union, @belspo is organizing a conference at the Royal Library of Belgium on the role of research infrastructures in this changing world. I hope participants to our #StrongertogetherSSAH conference had a great time. We at @belspo surely had, and commit ourselves to put into practice the bold ideas that we discussed all together during these 2 days. Foster evidence-informed #policymaking that fully integrates #SSAH!

Reflecting on two days of impactful dialogue at the Africa Museum in Tervuren, co-organized by BELSPO during the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
On the 6th and 7th of May, the #StrongerTogether: SSAH and the future of evidence-informed policymaking interactive conference brought together 152 dynamic participants from Belgium (for half of them) as well as from across Europe and beyond, uniting researchers, knowledge brokers, and policymakers in a shared vision for evidence-informed policymaking (EIPM).
With enthusiasm and dedication, we delved into the depths of multidisciplinary scientific expertise, exploring diverse testimonies and case studies. From these discussions emerged bold ideas that illuminate the path toward better integration of SSAH (social sciences, arts and humanities) in future EIPM ecosystems:
🌱 Instil a collaborative mindset rather than a competitive spirit in children early on to foster interdisciplinary research.
🧠 Embrace AI in the production of evidence for policymakers while upholding human responsibility for evidence quality, explainability and transparency.
🔍 Invest in 'research on research' to drive evidence-informed policymaking and transform research and information ecosystems.
🌐 Establish an observatory of expertise ecosystems to navigate the wealth of already existing solutions for cross-boundary advice.
📚 Normalize interactions between policymakers and academics to enhance science-policy literacy and mutual understanding.
♻️ Cultivate a ‘circular economy’ of already available interdisciplinary knowledge.
📢 Organize dedicated communication channels, translation efforts and inclusive spaces for collaboration between all stakeholders.
💡 Foster a shared mindset and develop specific competences among researchers and policymakers for effective EIPM.
🤝 Create safe and open spaces in ‘normal times’ to nurture trust in EIPM processes.
A Policy brief will now be prepared by the scientific and the steering committees of the conference for larger dissemination and further discussions in European initiatives and within members states.
In the words of one of our speakers, "Don't be afraid to experiment, it's okay to fail!" Let's thus continue this journey together, armed with bold ideas and a strong commitment to shaping evidence-informed policy for a brighter future.

@FrankVandenbr10 @mariusgilbert @belspo @EUScienceInnov @jolitaEU @EU_ScienceHub @UCLouvain_be @PolicyUpen @DurhamPolicyHub @ahrcpress @FabRousselot @FR_Conversation As a #classicist at #SSAH @belspo #policy, it has *made my day* to hear that Minister @FrankVandenbr10 self-describes as an ‘Aristotelian’.
‘Happiness is not my goal, I am aiming for excellence.’
@PublicAristotle @LeverhulmeTrust @EU_ScienceHub @EUScienceInnov @policyupen

@FrankVandenbr10 Prof @mariusgilbert says that society is fragmented and has become ‘individualised’. The academic community must work with, and for, societal actors if they are to optimise the impact of #Science4Policy advice. #SSAH @belspo @EUScienceInnov

I’m delighted to be speaking in Brussels at @belspo #EU2024BE conference on #SSAH and evidence-informed #policymaking at @africamuseumbe. How can we make multidisciplinary #Science4policy ecosystems a reality across Europe? https://t.co/OvYA8d3oYI

What an amazing wrap-up of @guildeu #SSAH Deans meeting @UofGlasgow!🏴
🇪🇺 @PedroSerranoEU joined us & highlighted the importance of UK reassoc. to HEU & how the knowledge from SSAH research makes us collectively stronger.
Swiss partners must follow suit in reassoc. process🤝

@CTVToronto Any chance he’s increasing #SSAH and #ODSP rates for our most vulnerable: disabled children and adults? #onpoli
Great to be part of this discussion on behalf of @belspo. Impact of #SSAH on evidence-informed #policymaking is also hot topic on the @EU2024BE agenda in #research and innovation, with a high level conference in Tervuren at @africamuseumbe on 6 and 7 May (more info to come soon).
🙌 @ERC_Research launch their white paper on #research evaluation at EASSH workshop today in Brussels!
On now ➡️ Panel discussion: Evaluation of institutions: what do national ministries, policymakers & stakeholders expect from research evaluation systems?
