At the start of the 6th Ordinary Session of the AU Specialised Technical Committee on Social Development, Labour and Employment (#STCSDLE6), @_MbokaziSabelo, Head of Labour, Employment and Migration, appeared on @NBCDigitalNews Prime Timeโs 8:00 PM live news to talk about labour migration governance in Africa.
He outlined the African Unionโs measures to protect migrant workers who continue to face abuse and exploitation in the diaspora. He detailed the practical steps the AUC is taking to make remittances from African workers abroad cheaper and safer for ordinary citizens, recognising these transfers as a vital lifeline for many households. With over 80% of labour migration occurring within the continent and complicated visa regimes still in place, he set out the AUCโs current direction in enabling movement of skills across borders. He also outlined current continental initiatives with other regions of the world on the externalisation of African labour and assessed how Africa is currently faring on these platforms.

As we begin the #STCSDLE6 in Windheok๐ณ๐ฆ, I had the opportunity to speak with @NBCDigitalNews on the priorities for the week ahead. We must strengthen Member State leadership to advance decent work, improve regulation, protect workers & create more opportunities for our youth.
