BREAKING: Several reports from northeast Syria indicate that the YPG militia has begun disbanding and dismissing its Sutoro force, starting in the city of Hassakeh. The Sutoro has been promoted as an Assyrian Christian force within the SDF by the self-proclaimed Kurdish entity and its supporters as part of a broader propaganda effort to suggest Assyrian backing for its separatist agenda. In reality, the Sutoro force has consisted mostly of Kurds and Arabs. Most of the few Assyrians who served in it did so out of economic necessity. Since seizing control of northeast Syria in 2011, the Kurdish PYD party—an offshoot of the PKK—has propped up several Assyrian puppet groups under its control to undermine independent Assyrian organizations like the Assyrian Democratic Organization.
