Storm Water Drain development in full swing. Capacity of #SWDs to carry rain water is being increased by remodelling earthen drain or old inefficient masonry drain to RCC drain to prevent recurring floods in chronic flood prone areas. One of the many reasons for floods was the missing links in large SWDs. These missing links were causing bottle necks in moving rain water and hence causing frequent floods. To mitigate floods Govt has taken up construction of 264 kms of primary and secondary RCC SWDs in Bengaluru at a cost of 2000Crore. These are designed and built to carry large quantities of rain water. Funded by Revenue Dept with a loan from World Bank, this is the single largest ever investment to improve the SWD network in Bengaluru and reduce floods. This is the largest investment in SWD network of Bengaluru. Over the last 15 years 596 kms of SWDs were developed. With this project we will achieve completion of all the 860 kms of primary and secondary drains that exist in #Bengaluru. Part of the work is taken up in #Byatarayanapura constituency also. I visited the work site to inspect design, work quality and to speed up the work.
