Petitioning should've been canceled. Since it wasn't, we put #safetyoversignatures by double masking, using an inordinate amount of hand sanitizer, and asking all at risk vols to stay home.
Still, our grassroots team showed up & collected an incredible 15,000+ signatures!
Candidates, please stop touting the number of signatures you filed. This was an unnecessary process that put thousands of lives at risk. Your pictures of people standing practically on top of one another during petitioning were bad enough.

@NYGovCuomo has repeatedly put politics before the health and safety of New Yorkers. Just as he did last year, he can issue an EO putting #SafetyOverSignatures by cancelling petitioning.
Response from @EricaForNY and @mrortegany, two of the leading anti-petitioning organizers. Call on candidates not the challenge, which would effectively limit the amount of sigs that need to be gathered even further.

I spoke on the floor about A3356 — a bill that reduces the # of signatures needed get on the ballot by 70% to lessen the risk of contact during COVID-19
But, how can we in good-conscience maintain a petition system that requires in-person contact?
