Winter-scene, at Poland🇵🇱’s stunning #SapperEngineer Monument - standing strong like today’s 🇵🇱Sappers/Engineer Corps. There is an important 🇺🇸🇵🇱“Transatlantic” engineer-link. 🇵🇱’s most important and celebrated leader/engineer - Gen #TadeuszKościuszko - is also one of America’s most important leader/engineers. Gen Kościuszko plays a game-changing role helping Gen #GeorgeWashington and 🇺🇸 win independence, with his innovative engineering of defenses at #Saratoga, #WestPoint - many others. Today, 🇺🇸@USArmy and 🇵🇱@DowOperSZ engineers continue in Kościuszko’s footsteps, training together ensuring max capabilities in #Mobility, #Countermobility, #Survivability and #UnexplodedOrdnance #UXO disposal. Near the #VistulaRiver in Warsaw, the massive SapperMonument stands as a poignant reminder to the heroism of 🇵🇱engineers and the dangers they encounter in demining Warsaw/🇵🇱 after WWII. Inscription: “Free Warsaw will never forget those who, with their hard labor and blood, first began the work of her rebuilding.” 🇵🇱Sappers are held in the highest regard for carrying out the monumental and dangerous mission of demining/clearing of all manner of UXO to make Warsaw safe to live/rebuild. Hundreds of 🇵🇱Sappers are killed during treacherous UXO operations. The dangerous work of 🇵🇱Sappers marks the beginning of the “Beginning” of the rebuilding of Warsaw/🇵🇱; a rebuilding which shockingly, continues even now, 8-decades on! The Germans severely damage Warsaw, especially in 1939 and again during the #WarsawUprising. But, that’s not all. Germany’s response to the WarsawUprising is astonishing. Like other German genocidal policies against Poles/Jews, the response is punitive including massacres. Then, at the end of the Uprising, when the Poles are forced to capitulate, the Germans begin a new warcrime seen nowhere else during the most lethal war in world history - a nation’s capital is purposely obliterated. Germans methodically reduce what remains of Warsaw, literally “building-by-building, brick-by-brick” for no other reason than “hate’s sake.” There is no military rational for Germany to commit such a warcrime. Himmler’s order, “The city must completely disappear from the surface of the earth and serve only as a transport station for the Wehrmacht. No stone can remain standing. Every building must be razed to its foundation. SS chief Heinrich Himmler, 17 October 1944.” Germany’s destruction encompasses thousands of structures including Warsaw’s most important & historical buildings, Churches, Universities/Schools, Libraries, Palaces - the beautiful Saxon Palace - Monuments and architectural works. At the end of WWII, Warsaw is buried in ~20,000,000 cubic meters of rubble and saturated with ~45 tons of lethal UXO. It’s nothing less than an apocalyptic landscape as far as the eye can see/beyond. This is the scene where 🇵🇱Sappers begin the unbelievable task of rendering Poland safe. Even today, WWII-era UXO is discovered in 🇵🇱 and vigilant 🇵🇱Army/Navy Sappers keep 🇵🇱 safe. The long list of support Poland provides Ukraine🇺🇦, includes UXO-disposal. As Germany did to Poland, Russia is now creating a UXO moonscape in 🇺🇦. When Russia finally ceases its brutal War, 🇵🇱 will play a vital role in many areas including assisting 🇺🇦 in UXO-disposal. Finally, it’s worth reminding that in a government report 🇵🇱 calculates that the cost of unpaid German war reparations is at least ~€1,500,000,000,000Tn. Excerpt: “1. Poland lost 6 trillion 220 billion 609 million 🇵🇱zlotys during the war. 2. Over 5 million citizens lost their lives. 3. The war set Poland’s development back 20 years. 4. Over one million families lost all their possessions. Material losses amounted to 797 billion 398 million 🇵🇱zlotys” Germany paid reparations to Israel/other nations.
