On 31/07, the SAPS closed #MandelaMonth by giving the Majola family something that will last far beyond 67 minutes, yes, a home and a new beginning.
The #SAPS is known for preventing and combating crime, but effective policing is also built on trust, care and meaningful partnerships with the communities we serve. Yesterday’s handover showed that #CommunityPolicing is not only about responding to crime, but is also about listening to communities, identifying their needs and working together to bring about positive change.
The SAPS welcomes the Majola family into their new home and commends the Technology Management Services (TMS) team for turning compassion into action. A heartfelt thank you is also extended to the #WomensNetwotk, #MenforChange, the sponsors and every individual who contributed to making this vision a reality.
As Mandela Month ends, the responsibility to serve should not end with it. May the spirit of giving, working together and uplifting those in need remain a daily commitment.

Chief Kekana, Brigadier Mosoeu and members of the Majola family cut the ribbon before Mama Majola opened the door to their new home. The family was amazed, overjoyed and appreciative of what they saw.
The tears Mama Majola cried today were no longer tears of pain caused by her circumstances, but tears of overwhelming joy.

The family was identified by AC Tseleng Marutla from TMS, who resided in Marikana, Soshanguve, not far from the Majola family. This marked the beginning of a journey that would change the lives of the family.
Following discussions, the TMS Women’s Network and #MenforChange structures decided to build a house for the Majola family. Lieutenant Colonel Thanjekwayo further reflected on the challenges encountered throughout the project but emphasised that the team did not give up. Instead, they persevered, faced the challenges head on and remained committed to seeing the project through to completion.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Divisional Commissioner for Technology Management Services, Brigadier Mosoeu, who is the functionary for the day, greeted all guests and expressed the joy surrounding this special occasion.
Brigadier Mosoeu said that the division decided to assist where it could because no one deserves to live under the conditions experienced by the Majola family. The operations resulted in the seizure of counterfeit and illicit goods with an estimated value of R27 504 578.00.
On Monday, 27/07, members executed a search and seizure warrant at a business premises in Pretoria Central, Tshwane District. During the operation, police confiscated 109 counterfeit HP toner cartridges with an estimated value of R327 000.00.
The operation continued on Tuesday, 28/07, in Kagiso, West Rand District, where four shops were inspected. * 10 350 pairs of counterfeit shoes valued at R15 525 000.00 in Randburg; and

Between 27 and 30 July 2026, the Provincial Counterfeit Unit, working together with brand protection representatives and other law enforcement partners, executed a series of search and seizure ops across the Tshwane, West Rand, Sedibeng and Johannesburg Districts. The operations resulted in the seizure of counterfeit and illicit goods with an estimated value of R27 504 578.00.
On Monday, 27/07, members executed a search and seizure warrant at a business premises in Pretoria Central, Tshwane District. During the operation, police confiscated 109 counterfeit HP toner cartridges with an estimated value of R327 000.00.
The operation continued on Tuesday, 28/07, in Kagiso, West Rand District, where four shops were inspected. Police seized 1 125 counterfeit and illicit items, including counterfeit consumables, cellphone accessories and shoes, as well as illicit honey, poison and pharmaceutical products. The estimated value of the seized goods is R175 910.00.
On Thursday, 30/07, another operation was conducted in Evaton, Sedibeng District, where four shops were visited.
Members confiscated 129 counterfeit consumables, socks and shoes valued at approximately R30 668.00.
On the same day, a major operation was conducted in the Johannesburg and Sedibeng Districts, targeting storage facilities in Randburg and Heidelberg. The operation was executed by the Gauteng Provincial Counterfeit Unit, supported by members from the Border Police Unit based at City Deep and brand protection representatives.
During the operation, police searched three storage units, resulting in the seizure of:
* 10 350 pairs of counterfeit shoes valued at R15 525 000.00 in Randburg; and
* 44 350 counterfeit clothing items and shoes valued at R11 445 000.00 in Heidelberg.
The total seizure from the Johannesburg operation amounted to 54 700 counterfeit items with an estimated value of R26 970 000.00.
The four-day operation resulted in the seizure of 56 063 counterfeit and illicit items with a combined estimated value of R27 504 578.00.

The Johannesburg District Family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit has successfully secured a significant conviction against a 54-year-old man for the attempted rape and kidnapping of a four-year-old girl.
The docket was assigned to Detective Constable Lesiba Modiba, whose meticulous and dedicated investigation ensured a watertight case in court. The accused was found guilty and sentenced to seven years imprisonment, with three years suspended for five years. Furthermore, the court declared the convict unfit to possess a firearm.

The Johannesburg District Family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit has successfully secured a significant conviction against a 54-year-old man for the attempted rape and kidnapping of a four-year-old girl.
The docket was assigned to Detective Constable Lesiba Modiba, whose meticulous and dedicated investigation ensured a watertight case in court. The accused was found guilty and sentenced to seven years imprisonment, with three years suspended for five years. Furthermore, the court declared the convict unfit to possess a firearm.

During the search, police recovered one 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off, as well as one magazine. The firearm was confiscated, and the suspect was immediately arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The recovered firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing as part of the ongoing police investigation to determine whether it may have been used in the commission of other crimes.

Members of SAPS Roodepoort, assisted by the West Rand K9 Unit and BAS Security, responded to reports of a shooting in an open field in Roodepoort. Upon arrival, the members approached the area to investigate. The suspects allegedly opened fire on the police, resulting in a shootout. During the exchange of shots, two suspected illegal miners were fatally wounded. No police officers or security personnel were injured during the incident.
Police recovered three unlicensed firearms, an AK-47 rifle, a .22 calibre rifle, and a 9mm Uzi, as well as 126 rounds of ammunition of various calibres.
Since the beginning of July 2026 to date , police in Gauteng have recovered 388 unlicensed firearms and 6,650 rounds of ammunition. The recovered firearms include 9mm pistols, revolvers, AK-47 rifles, and shotguns. These firearms were recovered during crime prevention operations, stop-and-search, patrols,vehicle check points, #OperationShanela, and #OperationProsper.
Police remain committed to intensifying operations aimed at dismantling illegal mining activities and removing illegal firearms from communities.
