I have to agree. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Kate Brooks does not deserve to be personally attacked. But critiquing her professional decisions. Completely fair. Just look at the general audience feedback from last night’s episode, it’s absolutely shocking. These are the viewers she wants to, and I quote, “appease.” She described a storyline, where a wife returns from the “dead,” only for it to unfold into a coercive control narrative as an “enjoyable ride.” Sorry, but that’s an absolutely disgraceful way to frame something which turned out to be so serious. Especially when it directly impacts an already marginalised community that she herself is part of. Now we’re being told Swarla are heading into a “romantic spring”… while their wedding is used as a backdrop for a murder plot. Utter bollocks. Five victims who all deserve the chop, and the worst outcome is that they’re not all going? The general audience are checking out. The classic characters, the literal heart of the show are being cast aside. And the one genuinely strong thing they had going for them? Swarla. Arguably the best representation we’ve had on a British soap and they’ve somehow managed to tarnish it. At this point the only people still clinging on are: – those parasocially obsessed with one of the actresses, – the “it’s just a soap” brigade who try to control the narrative and will conveniently change their tune in six months’ time, but now think it would be a fantastic storyline for them to co-parent Carla’s brother’s baby. Please. 🤣 – or people who aren’t arsed either way And watch the passive-aggressive tweets treacle through. Watch the fake accounts pop up giving it the big one. Grow up. You can’t control everyone here, and you certainly don’t get to dictate how a large portion of viewers feel about how poorly this show is being produced. Put the classic characters back at the forefront of the show. Bring back the heart. Bring back the soul. And bring back the epically produced Corrie where the writers, who are genuinely brilliant with the right material, are actually given the space and direction to tell the amazing stories they’re more than capable of telling. Something has to change if this show is going to resemble the Corrie we actually know and love again. It doesn’t have to be all about Swarla for people to tune in, it just has to be done properly. Right now. It’s a shower of shite.
