The closing of Ilkhom would indeed be a tremendous blow. The theatre is the beating heart of contemporary arts culture in 🇺🇿. The fact that it survived and flourished through difficult times since 1976 is testament to its cherished place in the city’s cultural fabric.
Ilkhom, the first independent theater in Central Asia, founded in 1976 in Tashkent by director Mark Weil, is now facing the threat of closure due to the change of the owner of the building where the theater's premises are located.
