I believe when the system (or an individual) thinks it's its own accountability mechanism (esp. when kids are suffering/dying bc of its (in)actions) it's called either: a)delusional, b)authoritarian, or c)corruption. In this case probably d)all of the above. #SaveOPACY #KeepOPACY
Doug Ford: Save the Ontario Child Advocate. Sign the Petition! https://t.co/UeWnNIflaj #keepopacy #saveopacy #onpoli @OntarioAdvocate
Very disappointed with the government’s decision to cut the Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth. I know the impact it has on the lives of children & youth, they need an advocate, I was one of those youth. Our voices must be heard. @OntarioAdvocate #KeepOpacy #SaveOPACY
I wish the PC govt. would simply admit that the price of fixing the deficit is the lives, and security of the children it is meant to care for.
No sense in lying about the true human cost of this move.

Stripping the OCA will facilitate abuse, neglect, sexual violence. The use of restraints, AGAINST CHILDREN, unnecessarily.
It will suspend investigations into group homes with track records of these acts against children.

The PC Govt. acts as though OCA is a watchdog who would be better serving them as a lap dog, turning a blind eye when it suits the PC Govt.
The PC Govt’s pride will cost lives. Very real, tangible lives.

OCA has come out with Scathing reports, it has elevated the voices of children and youth in govt. care, it has participated in inquests into the deaths of children and youth with connections to govt. care.
OCA has affected real and lasting change.

As evident by highschool graduation statistics: 41% of youth in care DO NOT graduate Highschool.
1 out of 182 youth across Canada is currently in foster care. 1 in 50 will have some@form of involvement with CAS.
But the Ford Govt. doesn’t care about them.

The government cares more about its bottom line, than youth in its care leaving the system better than when they entered. As evident by homelessness statistics which see 75% of homeless youth under 25, self reporting child welfare involvement.

Aren’t our stats proof enough that your current system, even WITH SUPPORTS like OPACY, and OACAS, is not functioning?
In any given month there are 12,794 children in Foster Care in Ontario. There are stats on this.

Fedeli says that “Everyone must sacrifice without exception.”
My question to the PC’s is this: haven’t children in foster care suffered enough? Haven’t they sacrificed enough? Isn’t abuse, neglect and violence against us been enough?

I live in the same building that Katelynn Sampson lived in. I can see her school from across the street. The OCA left Katelynn a legacy, Katelynn’s Principle.
Now Dough Ford and the Finance Minister want to take it away.

The Ontario Child Advocate is a necessary service. It is a necessary watchdog. When social workers, foster parents, and systems do not keep children in its care safe, OCA stepped up and says “the government cares about what happens to you.”
