1/2 #SaveTheChoco A local community member becomes a conservation hero! Amado de la Cruz lives in Puerto Nuevo, a village in the Chocó rainforest. For more than 12 years, he worked as a logger to be able to provide for his family, frustrated that he had no other option.

Meet the elusive roadrunner of Ecuador! The Banded Ground-Cuckoo lives only in the Chocó rainforest. It is so shy and secretive that park guards have learned to imitate the sound of this spectacular bird to attract it so they can observe and research its' behavior. #SaveTheChoco

#SaveTheChoco rainforest is biodiversity hotspot that holds the largest number of restricted-range birds of any Endemic Bird Area in the Americas, with 62 endemic species. One of them the majestic Harpy Eagle. We are currently protecting the only known Harpy Eagle nest here.
