Sgt R G Smith and Sgt McLean, 412 Sqn, were killed when their #Spitfires collided over Silk #Willoughby at approx 7000 ft during a practice dog-fight. The fuselage of one of the aircraft was completely cut in half.
Sgt Smith was buried at #Scopwick.

A 409 Sqn RCAF #Beaufighter crashed 8 miles north of Boston near Leake.
Sqn Ldr Hanbury, Flt Sgt Dixon & Plt Off Sweet were killed.
Hanbury had known Sweet before the war and take him up to introduce him to the Beaufighter.
All 3 are buried at #Scopwick.

The funeral for Flt Lt 'Pyker' #Offenburg was held on the station. His coffin was carried by hearse to the burial ground at #Scopwick, where was accorded full military honours.
A special stone still marks the site of the original grave in the cemetery.

The funeral of Plt Off J G #Magee Jr took place at #Scopwick Cemetery at 1430 hrs.
An escort and bearer party of 45 officers and men from 412 Squadron were involved. The other squadrons - 92, 409 and 609 - from the #Digby Wing were also represented.

Two #Hurricanes from 151 Sqn were lost during night flying.
At 2037, R4184 crashed at #Coleby killing the pilot Sgt Holder.
At 2044, Sgt D Stanley in V7434 was badly burned when he crashed at #Dunston. He sadly died from his wounds and is buried at #Scopwick.

The funeral of Flt Lt โ#Pykerโ #Offenburg was held on station and afterwards he was buried at #Scopwick. Lady #Londesborough attended, dressed in black and wearing a single snow lily.
After the war, Offenburgโs remains were returned to his native #Belgium.

#411 (City of #York) Squadron #RCAF acquired a new #mascot, a puppy of uncertain parentage (although one was obviously a Jack Russell).
He was christened 'Joskins Firkin of #Scopwick'

Officers from 1 Sqn @RCAF_ARC attended the funeral at #Scopwick of Flt Lt Reynolds from their squadron. He had died in a flying accident near #Bridlington on February 18th.
The squadron was based at #Driffield but was due to move to #Digby within days.

2 #Beaufighters of #409 Sqn RCAF were taking part in a NAVEX when they collided at low level near #Gainsborough.
One came down close to #Corringham with the second crashing in the village.
All 4 aircrew were killed and were later buried at #Scopwick.
