Why am I an indie author? Because I'm an independent person. Always have been. My tribe is people who don't need a tribe, people who blaze their own trail, people who don't care to ask for permission to live their lives, or need a group identity to define themselves. Free-thinking independent individuals are my jam. That's why I'm also an indie reader. I love to dive into the unpredictable world of somebody else's head, (mostly) free of the filter of editors and publishers. Sure, there's plenty of copycat fanfic out there in indie circles, but there's also plenty of groundbreaking mind-blowing stuff that trad would never have the guts to even touch. And yeah, it ain't all fun and games, and there's times we all feel like we're screaming into the void to get readers, but with 3 million books published a year, so are trad authors. But when we scream, it's from the heart, because that's our baby, not some "product" written by a committee. That's a piece of our soul on that page.
