With the heightened debate about 🇺🇸force posture in Europe, and with Poland at the center, it was a great and timely opportunity to co-author this important article with @MeitzPL @TheNatlInterest about permanent basing of the right mix of 🇺🇸forces in Poland.
It’s not only about resetting deterrence, of course that’s crucial. It’s also about taking advantage of a generational opportunity to deepen force-integration with Poland, America’s most loyal, willing and increasingly capable Ally. It’s about rapidly turning Poland into a near-peer 🇺🇸Ally, which will be a game-changer for the defense of Europe.

I’d like to add these 5 points to this important conversation:
1. On the planet, it’s hard to find a better Ally and Friend than Poland. Poland commits the funding, and is more willing than any other, to do the hard work to deter, and to be ready - if necessary - for war. As American leaders say: “Poland is the Model-Ally.”
2. It’s imperative both for #AmericaFirst, and for 🇺🇸 to achieve #PeaceThroughStrength that we reinforce the 🇺🇸🇵🇱strategic-relationship by permanently assigning American forces to Poland. This does not require massive #ColdWar troop numbers. ~20,000 🇺🇸troops permanently assigned to Poland provides the right size, at the right echelons and with the right #MultiDomainOperations #MDO capabilities. What’s MDO? It’s perhaps easier to provide a “word-picture,” than to describe. In short, MDO is what the 🇺🇸 military recently demonstrated in the sophisticated and flawless operation to bring 🇻🇪’s narco-criminal-terrorist #Maduro to justice.
3. Why are permanently-assigned forces to Poland so important for America? Of course it’s about deterring Russia, and for America’s Forward-base-access, as Poland is such a crucial #StrategicHub for America.
But, it’s as equally important for American forces to daily train side-by-side the #PolishArmedForces #PAF, together testing new doctrine, while incorporating lessons from Russia’s brutal war on Ukraine. This will rapidly increase the readiness and MDO capabilities of the PAF - and 🇺🇸 - which will have a multiplicative effect across the region, and Alliance.
4. With decades of close 🇺🇸🇵🇱 military cooperation in peace and in war, and with Poland’s $150B+ modernization program (~half of this amount dedicated to state-of-the-art 🇺🇸equipment), the PAF looks more and more like a smaller “twin” of the U.S. military. What an opportunity and privilege it will be to see Poland go to the next level in MDO. Yes Poland, which has since 1990 - still 9 years from even entering NATO, and while still occupied by Russian troops - deploys alongside 🇺🇸forces “in spades,” anytime America requests her support.
5. Finally, Poland provides more $ in “host-nation” support than any Ally in Europe, improving bases and training complexes to meet American requests and American standards. There simply is no better Ally, nor place on the planet than Poland, to help 🇺🇸 go to the next level in MDO, preparing for future war (anywhere such war may occur).
