The replacement and commissioning of the transformer at the Seboka Substation is still in progress. To ensure that the work is completed safely and correctly, the temporary load rotation schedule will continue until 20 July 2026. We anticipate that the replacement process will be concluded and electricity supply restored to all affected customers by 20 July 2026 at 08:00.
While our technicians have been working around the clock to restore electricity supply, Eskom is concerned that a mini-substation was vandalised during this period. These criminal acts disrupted the temporary supply arrangements, affected customers on the load rotation schedule, and delayed the restoration process.
We appeal to the Sebokeng community to partner with Eskom in protecting electricity infrastructure. Vandalism not only delays the restoration of electricity supply but also inconveniences households, businesses, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services. Customers are urged to report any suspicious activities or acts of vandalism to the South African Police Service or Eskom Crime Line on 0800 11 27 22 or via WhatsApp on 081 333 3323 so that those responsible can be brought to justice. By working together, we can help protect critical infrastructure, improve the reliability of electricity supply, and prevent unnecessary outages.
Customers are reminded to treat all electrical appliances and installations as live during the load rotation period, as electricity supply may be restored without prior notice.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank our customers for their understanding and continued cooperation as we work to restore reliable electricity supply as safely as possible.

The installation and commissioning of the replacement transformer at the Seboka Substation remains underway. As this is a complex process, additional time is required to complete the installation safely and ensure that the transformer is fully commissioned before it can be placed into service.
As a result, the temporary load rotation schedule will resume from 16:00 today and will remain in effect until 15 July 2026 while the remaining installation and commissioning work is completed. This arrangement will continue to ensure that affected customers receive electricity at scheduled intervals during this period.
Customers are urged to treat all electrical appliances and installations as live, as electricity supply may be restored or interrupted in accordance with the load rotation schedule and without prior notice. We also appeal to customers to switch on electrical appliances gradually when supply is restored to avoid overloading the network.
We will continue to provide updates as work progresses. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank our customers for their understanding and cooperation as we work to safely complete the work being conducted.

We have successfully restored electricity supply to customers in Sebokeng Zones 8, 10, 11, 12 and 13, as well as parts of Sebokeng Zone 7 and parts of Small Farms through another transformer at the Seboka Substation.
We appeal to customers whose electricity supply has been restored to switch on electrical appliances gradually and avoid turning on all appliances at the same time. This will help prevent overloading the transformer currently supplying these areas and reduce the risk of it tripping, which could result in another interruption to the electricity supply.
Our teams continue to work on implementing alternative supply arrangements for the remaining affected areas while replacing the transformer that was damaged in the fire. Further updates will be provided as progress is made.

The assessment of the damaged equipment has been completed and confirmed that the transformer damaged in the fire will need to be replaced. A replacement transformer has been sourced, together with the materials required to complete the replacement.
As replacing the transformer is a complex process that will take some time, we are implementing alternative supply arrangements to restore electricity to as many customers as possible. We are in the process of backfeeding some customers from another transformer at the Seboka Substation. However, due to network capacity constraints, this transformer will not be able to supply all the affected areas.
Should we not encounter any challenges we estimate that electricity supply will be restored by 20:00 to customers in Sebokeng Zones 10 and 11, as well as parts of Sebokeng Zone 7 and parts of Small Farms.
Plans are also underway to energise another transformer to supply the remaining affected zones on a rotational basis while the damaged transformer is being replaced.
We appeal to our customers to be patient as we continue with the restoration process. Our teams are doing everything possible to safely expedite the work and restore electricity supply to all affected customers as quickly as possible.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
