Here is a Twitter Thread ๐งต of #SectoralAnalysis of weakest sectors of #NIFTY - along with additional data like #USDINR and #INDIAVIX - want to know if this is really a beginning of the Bear ๐ป Market or not ? With proper Data - And which sectors to look out for? Click on the tweet below!
Adding to the list of bearish signs is #USDINR. It has crossed a major all time high resistance of โน95.30. Our currency is still depreciating against USD. Which generally is not a good sign for equities because #FII returns will decrease, thus Indian Markets become less attractive to them and thus the outflow. As an Indian Citizen, I really hope that Indian Currency stabilises soon! But yeah, this right now is not a good sign for #NIFTY (Not financial advice)

๐๐ From Sepโ24โAprโ25, Nifty stayed in a downtrend (LL & LH). April marked a reversal with a double bottom.
๐น๐ Like a car taking a U-turn, markets too canโt accelerate instantlyโfirst they slow, then build speed. Since April, Nifty is making HH & HL, consolidating near key EMAs for almost 12 months.
A clear trend emerges only above 25600 as shown in chart 1 ๐ ๐.
Meanwhile, sectors like Auto, Mining, Chemicals & Pharma are showing strength with leaders breaking out on strong volumesโa healthy sign. ๐ ๐

For any UPSC Civil Services aspirant, this is an indispensable read as it covers crucial economic indicators like GDP & GVA growth rates, which are frequently tested in both Prelims & Mains. ๐ฏโ๏ธ
๐ซ Introduction:
India's economic performance & growth trajectory are of paramount importance for UPSC aspirants, as they directly impact the country's development, policy formulation, & governance strategies. Understanding key economic indicators like GDP & GVA growth rates is crucial for analyzing the nation's progress, identifying challenges, & proposing solutions.
- GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is the most widely used measure of a country's economic output & growth, reflecting the total value of goods & services produced within a specific period.
- An 8.2% real GDP growth rate in FY 2023-24 indicates a robust economic performance & recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. ๐๐
- Higher GDP growth signifies an expansion in production, leading to increased income & employment opportunities across various sectors. ๐ผ๐ฐ
- For UPSC, understanding GDP growth trends, factors influencing them (e.g., investment climate, consumption patterns, global economic conditions), & their implications for various sectors is crucial from an economic development & policy perspective.
- GVA (Gross Value Added) measures the value of goods & services produced in an economy, excluding taxes & subsidies on products.
- A 7.2% real GVA growth rate indicates robust growth across various sectors, contributing to the overall GDP growth. ๐๐
- Analyzing GVA growth patterns can reveal the strengths & weaknesses of different sectors (e.g., agriculture ๐พ, industry โ๏ธ, services ๐ง), aiding in policy formulation & resource allocation decisions. ๐๏ธ
- For UPSC, understanding the composition of GVA, sectoral growth rates, interdependencies, & structural changes in the economy is essential. Questions on sectoral performance, contribution to GDP, & policy initiatives have been recurring themes. ๐๐
๐ก Additional Context & Relevance: ๐ก
๐บ GDP & GVA growth rates are crucial indicators of an economy's health & serve as benchmarks for policy decisions, including fiscal & monetary policies. ๐ผ๐ฐ
- Past UPSC questions have focused on the impact of various policies (e.g., tax reforms, interest rate changes, trade agreements) on GDP & GVA growth. ๐
๐บ Sustainable and inclusive growth, as reflected in these indicators, is a key objective of government policies & aligns with the UPSC's emphasis on development & governance-related issues. ๐๐
- UPSC questions have explored the relationship between economic growth & sustainable development goals, poverty alleviation, & human development indices. ๐งโ๐ซ๐
๐บ Factors influencing GDP & GVA growth, such as investment climate, consumption patterns, global economic conditions, & policy reforms, are essential areas of study for UPSC aspirants. ๐๐
- UPSC questions have delved into the role of factors like infrastructure development, ease of doing business, & foreign direct investment in driving economic growth. ๐๏ธ๐๐ผ
๐บ The implications of GDP & GVA growth on employment, income levels, poverty alleviation, & overall human development are also relevant for the UPSC syllabus. ๐งโ๐ง๐๏ธ
- UPSC questions have explored the linkages between economic growth, job creation, income inequality, & social welfare measures. ๐ผ๐ฐ๐ก
By understanding these economic indicators & their multidimensional aspects, #UPSCaspirants can better comprehend the country's economic trajectory, challenges, & policy responses, enabling them to tackle related questions effectively in both #Prelims & #Mains. ๐ฏโ๏ธ
