🚨 Critical Vulnerability in node.js ‘ip’ npm Package
🔍 A critical security vulnerability, CVE-2024-29415 (CVSS: 9.1), has been found in the node.js 'ip' npm package, which has nearly 20 million weekly downloads. This flaw poses a risk of #ServerSideRequestForgery (#SSRF) attacks.
💡 The issue arises from the isPublic() function, which incorrectly categorizes some private IP addresses as public. This affects versions up to 2.0.1 and potentially allows #unauthorizedaccess to internal systems. This issue is linked to an incomplete fix for a previous vulnerability in the package, CVE-2023-42282.
🔧 Users should migrate to alternative packages with better support, as no official #patch exists. If the affected package is still being used, review the code to avoid using the flawed functions for sensitive network requests and verify IP addresses provided in user inputs.
