Up next is Salla Selonen on ‘MPs in the Terrestrial Env - Impacts of Tyre Wear Particles (TWP) on Soil Animals’. Soil inverts exposed to TWP via food or soil experience no effects on survival, growth, reproduction, feeding activity. Slight indications of oxi stress in earthworms
Interested to see the finding coming from this research group. Tyres are quoted as a major contributor to #microplastic pollution, yet they are very difficult to ID in environmental samples meaning little is known of its impacts

Tire wear is one of the largest sources of microplastics and yet not much is kown of its effects on biota. Our reasearch group @roskasakki is conducting studies on this.
We need to remember that #microplastic pollution doesn't only affect the ocean!
Excellent research showing terrestrial ecosystems and plants are impacted too!

Plants also affected. Poly amide may leach N (increase in N content). Increase biomass is some cases. Change proportion of above/below ground fractions. Effects in root growth.
