They were trying to fool their father Jacob that they were innocent. They thought their lies & crocodile tears would fool Jacob, and Jacobs love/ admiration would be for them. They didn't think the way to move forward was on the basis of merit/ character. They thought there was a short cut to become achievers. Yet since when has criminality & obnoxiousness been a path to achievement? #Repentance Jacob sensed his sons were not being transparent. His heart longed for Joseph. He wept, became blind.
