Interesting read from @DrSunnyR et al as. In the previous 5-year gastro programme, 42% of trainees felt the need to extend their training to obtain specialty skills. As @RCPhysicians #ShapeofTraining reduces specialty time to 4 years, is this sufficient to train specialists?

@jimothysocks @alexfwarren @dickytill The one good thing from #ShapeOfTraining for me was “credentialing” at the end of training. As an ICU Cons I think I would want to credential in specific IR procedures. Think it should be perfectly possible and frees up IR for the complex stuff

This is really important - the biggest shakeup of UK medical training since #MMC

This is worrying news for patients with neurological conditions. Valuable data on the current shortage of UK #neurologists to deliver care & treatment, and the worsening forecast that will be exacerbated by #ShapeofTraining @ABNTrainees @NeuroAlliance
ABN workforce survey 2019 (published Jan 2020) identifies serious lack of UK neurologists (2nd lowest in Europe) & emerging workforce crisis due to combination of projected increase in newly appointed Less Than Full Time consultants and the increased number of early retirements.
