Just finished reading the verdict in the #Greeshma (#SharonDeathCase) case. It consists of 588 pages, of which 552 pages outline the case's course, arguments, counter-arguments, and the judge's judgment. A close examination of the WhatsApp messages from pages 386 to 402 reveals that this was a premeditated murder. Greeshma, who had previously attempted to kill Sharon by mixing paracetamol in a bottle of Slice in August, later mixed paraquat into a decoction in October.
The WhatsApp messages exchanged between the two clearly indicate Sharon's innocence. Starting with her morning message to Sharon, "Ichaya (as she calls him), my mother and uncle are going out; can you come home?", to her follow-up question, "So you won't come?", indicates that Greeshma was eager for Sharon to come over that day. When Sharon vomited after drinking the decoction, describing it as green, Greeshma responded that the decoction was brown and an unknown color. She insisted that the issue was not with the decoction itself but rather with the juice she provided to mask its bitterness, all while projecting an image of being caring and concerned.
Furthermore, the messages reveal her continued interest in Sharon's condition between the 14th and 17th, until his health deteriorated. If Greeshma had genuinely cared, she would have reached out to his family or friends. However, she did none of that. When Sharon's father called her, Greeshma claimed that she had given him a decoction prescribed by a doctor. But when asked for a photo of the prescription, she stated that there was none, asserting that she had bought the decoction herself. When asked to send a photo of the medicine, she replied that her family had thrown the bottle away and that she didn't know the medicine's name or have the bottle cap. These statements raise serious concerns about her credibility.
Moreover, when she learned of Sharon's death and that the police would question her, Greeshma deleted several WhatsApp messages. This suggests she was aware of her attempt to cover her tracks and feared leaving evidence of her involvement in the murder. The judge noted on page 522, "God in the cloud saved the data of crime. Based on the principle of Dr. Edmond Locard that one cannot leave a crime scene without leaving some trace of evidence, the accused left a large amount of evidence in the cloud."
In this case, the police depended on more than just direct and circumstantial evidence; they also utilized scientific data, including phone call records, mobile network tower data, internet search history, phone call voice recordings, and CCTV footage. It’s easier to challenge direct and circumstantial evidence, but scientific data is much harder to refute. Therefore, the Inquiry Officer and his entire inquiry team deserve commendation for their efforts.
