2011 - The Glenlee was invited to move to a new location at Pointhouse Quay next to the new Riverside Museum. After a 3rd dry dock, the ship was towed to this new location on 5th May.

1999 - The first woman would ascend the rigging on 11th of August. This honour was given to our trustee Elizabeth Allen. The restoration of the ship continues and taking care of it is hard work.

1996 – The restoration also included the installation of a new tween deck. This gets its name from being ‘between’ the other two decks. Today it is used for events, exhibitions, and café.

1998– One of the biggest jobs of the restoration was replacing the weather deck. The poop deck had been burned and both the weather and the fo’s’cle deck were damaged due to exposure to heat.

1993– Galatea arrived in Greenock on 9th June. It was re-painted and the bowsprit re-fitted before being towed to Yorkhill Quay in Glasgow. On 6th July it was renamed Glenlee by the Lord Provost

1993– Galatea was recognised as 1 of only 5 Clydebuilt steel sailing ships still afloat. The ship was bought at auction for around £40,000. On 1st June '93, Galatea left Spain for the last time.

1959– Galatea became a shore-based ship at Ferrol and provided young men with the opportunity to learn about rigging and the maintenance of a ship. The ship was finally retired from service in 1979. Learn more https://t.co/wdvib8pOMc

1959 - This year marked the end of Galatea's days as a seagoing vessel. During those last voyages, Galatea travelled to South America, New York, the Caribbean, and the area now known as Senegal.

1954 – Galatea met a severe storm while returning from a voyage to New York and Puerto Rico. The storm was so extreme it led to 20 injured cadets and the loss of 7 sails.

1945 – Like all ships, Galatea was affected by the WW2. Voyages were restricted throughout this period, and the neutral Spanish flag was painted on the ship to deter submarine attacks.
