As a kid in Phoenix, AZ, white female cashiers acted like they couldn’t see my mom. By the 90’s it didn’t happen much. 2022 Vancouver WA, happens almost every time - white female cashiers will not look me in the eye. #shoppingwhilebrown #shoppingwhileindigenous

#ShoppingWhileIndigenous is always interesting when white women are working. You either get ignored, saw two cashiers actually make eye contact and slow down to see which one would be stuck with me. Or you get the constant condescending assistance where they won't let you shop

@AngelaSterritt I was joking around with my cousin this weekend talking about how we must look lost or confused in stores. We're always asked if we need help! #ShoppingWhileBrown #NahImGood

Continuing with the theme of #ShoppingWhileIndigenous or #ShoppingWhileBrown The Shopper's Drug Mart at Spadina and Bloor has notoriously bad floor walkers. The Native Canadian Centre Of Toronto is up the road. Pretty much every Neechie has a story of being followed in that store

Every time I come to my local @WholeFoods there is an undercover security gaurd who always seems to follow me. (can y’all buy him different outfits?) As a brown person I’m fully aware of this phenomena. However, it’s becoming frustrating AF. #shoppingwhilebrown

@crushthebigots Happens to me all the time. It takes me a bit to realize it. It’s humiliating. #ShoppingWhileBrown

@TheLastLinda @andraydomise Who cares? It's the predictable, cliched response to mistreating yet another non-white customer. And I question why Old Navy named the woman and not the employee. #shoppingwhilebrown

When I go clothes shopping, if I took a folded shirt off a table I used to do the courteous thing and refold it if I put it back. I don’t anymore because a white lady inevitably sees me, asks me if she can get fitting room, then gets huffy when I go 🤷🏽‍♂️ #shoppingwhilebrown

@deray Uhm I don't know about you, but the check out person always rummages through my cart...I never get a cursory glance, whether there are lines or I am the only person in line. #ShoppingWhileBrown

To the French woman who called me exotic (out of the blue in a grocery store): I was born and raised in New York. I am American. You, the one among us who is from another country, are the one who is exotic. #shoppingwhilebrown
