I keep thinking how great it was to be in a conference where the poster sessions had their own time slots, not during coffee breaks, and the poster presenters got their 3 minutes on stage for advertising the poster. Didn't have to stand alone while others drink coffee #SignCAFE2
Hear something wild at #nwav50, #cogsci2022, #XPrag, #signcafe2, or any other recent conferences?
Maybe you’re a first-year Ling student whose intro class has gotten a bit absurd?

Many thanks to italian team for putting together an excellent workshop where structures , use and acquisition of various sign languages were presented and discussed by deaf amd hearing scholars from semiotic, cognitive and functional perspectives!! #signCAFE2. @olgacapirci 👏👏

Sign Language Center from @uniofjyvaskyla presented three posters in #signcafe2 Conference. #Showtell and @VIKKE_hanke projects were represented by @Anmapuup, Laura Kanto, @Sanna_Nordlund @dohernba and Tommi Jantunen. Topics related to Constructed Action in #signlanguage
@VKK_JY oli mukana kolmella posterilla esitelmineen #SignCAFE2 -konferenssissa @dohernba @Anmapuup, Laura kanto @VIKKE_hanke, Tommi Jantunen

Thanks to @SabinaFontana6, @olgacapirci, and all the team who organised #SignCAFE2. I enjoyed it so much: I learned a lot from some great presentations and I laughed a lot with wonderful people. I only wish I’d taken more photos! Looking forward to #SignCAFE3!
👇🏼The editorial team of the “Sign Language Research Sixty Years later” special issue @FrontPsychol almost complete in Ragusa for #SIGNcafe2 @SabinaFontana6 @AdamCSchembri @ErinWilkinson Brigitte Garcia and me.

Engberg-Pedersen: In Danish Sign Language 88% of adverbs occur before the predicate. Adv of relative time (recently) and evaluative adv (fortunately) tend to be separate from the predicate clause initial (similar to spoken Danish). #signcafe2
Beukeleers: great work showing that signers direct their eye gaze not only to classifier constructions but also to interlocutor to verify understanding. Eye gaze is a Semiotic tool that should be analysed in its social context and in real interaction #SignCAFE2
Marie-Anne Sallandre & Birgitte Garcia (keynote 3) #signcafe2 explain that that semiological approach of Cuxac for analyzing LSF has -- since as long ago as 1981 -- used conversational corpora that included annotation/analysis of all articulators (notably NMM) 1/
Sallandre & Garcia describe semiological approach & argue it puts spoken and sign languages in the same level. Their structures are constrained by modality. Sign type vary according to genre with more lexical signs in discourse and more personal transfer in stories #signcafe2
So #SignCAFE2 is off to a late start this morning due to a live captioning technical hitch. Keynote speakers this morning are Marie-Anne Sallandre and Brigitte Garcia from Paris 8 on ‘What does the Semiological approach have to offer?’
Getting ready for the 3rd and last day of #SignCafe2 🍿I’m joining from my couch, but I hope I’ll be physically present at #SignCafe3 so that I can say hello to you all!

@linasigns @c_borstell @ryanlepic @leesonl @the_gryphon @MiakoVillanueva @Sanna_Nordlund And BTW, you are all missed here at #SignCAFE2: @linasigns @ryanlepic @leesonl and @c_borstell
I’ve been quite inactive in the conf circuit lately (even remotely, I found it difficult to find motivation). But despite personal anxiety before getting to #signcafe2 & before my poster, I’m so happy I came to get feedback, see old faces, & meet some new. I’ve missed this 🤗

Given the discussion about passive constructions in signed versus spoken languages: worth remembering that more than half the spoken languages in this survey don’t have this construction either. ‘WALS Online -Feature 107A: Passive Constructions’ #SignCAFE2 https://t.co/kkuBUNHTRc
@anitaslonimska etal find that choice of character perspective in a narrative (agent/patient) is guided by discourse salience and LIS signers tend to take the role of main character. Similar results to Danish SL but more signers (N=30) and using stats analyses #signcafe2
