#SimonDeng - shows up every Sunday #HostageSquare to call for the release of the hostages. We @ammwecofficial , we stand with him and others in a unified call- @AllHostages to release all hostages. While Hamas uses the hostages to continue the war, perpetuate the suffering of the Palestinians, we call for the release of the hostages, to end the war and end the suffering of the Palestinians. @unwaiverhesed @Thehopebuilders @TaliGillette @anilaali @StateSPEHA

#SimonDeng - What an honor to meet Simon. Resilient, courageous, indomitable in his quest for Freedom! He trekked 300 miles, for Freedom, what will you stand for?? #DemonstrateHopeNotHate! @TaliGillette “On April 5, 2006 Sudan activist and former slave Simon Deng and a band of supporters completed an arduous 300-mile trek on foot from New York City to Washington, D.C. as part of the historic Sudan Freedom Walk. The three-week-long event was Deng's personal protest against the ongoing genocide and slave trade in Sudan, most notably in the nation's western Darfur region, where more than 300,000 civilians had been slaughtered and over 2 million displaced since 2003 alone.”

"During my duration as a slave, I was even given options by my slave master - that if I want to be treated like a human being, I [had] to take the offer that's on the table, which is convert to Islam, [be] given Arab names, and become their son. I was willing to convert to Islam if that [would] save me from what I go through every day. And I was willing even to take the Arab names if that [would] make me be treated like a human being. But the third one, it was very difficult to take - to become their son. In my mind, even though I was a child, I have a mom who loved me so dearly and I have a dad. I have a wonderful family. I was kidnapped against my will. Nobody knows what happened to me. Now, how can I give away my identity? During [those] times, there is one word that I [knew]: Yes and yes and yes to everything. I cannot say 'no' to anything...even to the torture. I have to say yes to it. So, what I always [told] them [is] 'Yes, I will let you know. I will let you know.' I'm buying time, because I'm relying on two things: hope and faith." - Former South Sudanese slave and human rights activist #SimonDeng 🔴WATCH on @AmThoughtLeader!

#SimonDeng: "I was born in a village where we were subjected to attacks on a monthly basis...troops [would] come & burn down the villages & kill whoever that they will find. When I see what happened recently in Israel... that's exactly what I experienced as a child.”

The 2d slave-turned-human-rights-activist I've met in the US: #SimonDeng, captured & lived as a slave in Sudan through childhood, freed, emigrated, became an anti-slavery leader, testified & led NY-DC marches for liberation of African slaves. I was part of the movement for years.
