The embankments, a short-term measure to mitigate floods of Assam, have been ‘weaponized’ for over half a century to get votes 7 mint money. Meanwhile, 7.4% of Assam's landmass has been lost over the decades due to erosion. More than the flood, erosion is the main problem.
