Volunteering overseas?
1️⃣Don't volunteer w/ children & #rethinkorphanages.
2️⃣Could this job be done by local people?
3️⃣Collect money not stuff & support the local economy ethically.
4️⃣Ask questions & listen.
A fantastic piece @GoodOnYou_App & @fmnsays! #SmartVolunteer
#Volunteering overseas can be an immensely rewarding experience, but a lack of oversight and regulation in some places means you can end up doing more harm than good. @fmnsays CEO @andenaveFMN told us why: https://t.co/HxV954RNco #goodonyouapp
What a panel! Wish we could make it to Sydney for this event - looking forward to hearing the conversation that comes from it 👍 #responsibletourism #endslavery #ReThinkOrphanages #FamiliesNotOrphanages #SmartVolunteer https://t.co/26P1w4JJbt
Join us in Sydney on June 21st as we tackle the big issue of modern slavery in the tourism industry. Together, we can ensure that tourism has a positive impact on children and communities. https://t.co/ocNvWkdgIg

On the back of the #ModernSlaveryAct @dfat is launching a #SmartVolunteer campaign which @ChrisCrewtherMP hopes will eventuate in the elimination of #orphanages abroad, as first & foremost children should be in #familycare. #SomethingForSlavery

The #smartvolunteer campaign discourages Australians from any form of short-term, unskilled volunteering in overseas orphanages and provides guidelines on how to be a child-safe volunteer https://t.co/o3c3t1R8Yq @lindareynoldswa @ChrisCrewtherMP @NoOrphanagesAU @fmnsays
