Pre-Summit Breakfast – Kenya Software Summit
Today, I had the honor of representing Cabinet Secretary @honkabogo , Ministry of Information, Communications & The Digital Economy KE @MoICTKenya , at the Pre-Summit Breakfast of the Kenya Software Summit.
As we set the stage for the inaugural summit in Eldoret, one message was clear:
Software is no longer just a tool—it is the engine of our economic transformation and a strategic pillar for national sovereignty.
In the keynote, I underscored the Ministry’s bold agenda to establish Kenya as a global software powerhouse. Among the highlights:
✅ A forthcoming National Software Development Policy that enshrines software as a strategic national asset.
✅ The Build and Buy Kenya Digital Framework to champion locally developed software across government.
✅ Launch of a Digital Public Infrastructure Registry to promote discoverability and interoperability.
✅ Ongoing implementation of a Global Open Source Program Office, one of only two in the world.
✅ Strategic investments in youth-led innovation, digital talent, AI, and open infrastructure.
✅ A new National AI Policy in the pipeline, reinforcing Kenya’s leadership in ethical and transformative AI.
Kenya’s moment is now. With strong legal, institutional, and operational frameworks, we are turning talent into opportunity, innovation into enterprise, and policy into impact.
To our partners in the private sector, development community, academia and innovation ecosystem this is your call to co-create, invest and scale with us.
