That pit in your stomach when you're about to share online? I know it well.
At last week's #SoloSummit hosted by Lettuce Financial, I shared my journey from content-creation anxiety to genuine confidence.
The question that sparked it all: "Many freelancers struggle with consistently sharing content. What advice do you have for creating a content strategy that actually generates opportunities?"
Let me start by saying the first step is to remind yourself that you have real value to share. Take a look in the mirror and think about all of the experiences you've had and the knowledge you've gained. Give yourself a nod.
But the real breakthrough happens when you get specific about who your audience is and why you're creating content.
The fear dissolves when you:
- Identify WHO you want to reach and why
- Clarify HOW you can help them
- And set your goal outcome(s)
From there, you can identify topic areas that your audience cares about that you can provide insight into.
*Then* it's figuring out how to create the right content that resonates.
The secret? Build trust first by providing value and key takeaways BEFORE introducing your services.
A simple formula to follow: Hook → Help → Sell

If you've had an in-house career before going independent, your existing network is gold. There's already built-in trust and authority. Don't be afraid to send those messages and reach out to former peers! I sent 15+ LinkedIn messages earlier this year when I was on the hunt for a new client—and it worked.
Expand beyond your immediate network:
Niche job boards and newsletters specific to your field connect so many freelancers with promising opportunities.
