Now I see attempts to whitewash him.” Sombat's case is different in that there has not previously been a similarly large number of allegations against him, at least not that have become publicly known in the way Somyot's allegations have. Moreover, the two sides (Sombat and his accuser) appear to have completely different recollections of what happened. Sombat has also not apologised directly to the woman or publicly explained his account of events. So, for now, it may come down to whom people choose to believe and trust: Sombat, or “Human with Low Battery” — the nickname used for the accuser Pornnapa Iamsamarng — unless clearer evidence emerges from either side, or additional allegations involving Sombat come to light. When we elevate people to that status, we create space for their followers to be exploited or manipulated, and we make society psychologically dependent on particular individuals.
