The spider in the image is a male false black widow spider, specifically Steatoda grossa of the family Theridiidae.
This identification rests on the glossy spherical black abdomen, the contrasting brownish cephalothorax, the long slender legs, and the overall body proportions relative to the surrounding skin and hair.
No red hourglass is present on the visible surfaces, which immediately separates it from true widow spiders in the genus Latrodectus.
While microscopic examination of genitalia would be required for absolute taxonomic certainty in every case, the external morphology aligns completely with mature male Steatoda grossa as documented across multiple reference collections and field guides.
Steatoda grossa follows a typical theridiid life cycle. Females deposit eggs inside spherical or slightly flattened white silken sacs that they guard within or near the web.
Spiderlings emerge after several weeks, disperse by ballooning or walking, and pass through multiple instars before reaching maturity.
Males mature more rapidly than females and become sexually active sooner. Once mature, males leave their natal webs to search for females.
These spiders construct irregular three-dimensional tangle webs, also called cobwebs or gumfoot webs. The structure consists of a loose scaffold of non-sticky threads with sticky capture lines that extend downward to the substrate.
When an insect contacts a sticky line, the tension pulls the prey upward into the main web where the spider immobilizes it by wrapping silk with the comb-like bristles on its fourth pair of legs.
Webs are typically placed in sheltered, dimly lit locations such as cupboards, wall voids, under furniture, or outdoor crevices.
Courtship is cautious. A mature male approaches a female web and produces characteristic vibratory signals by plucking or drumming on the silk. These signals advertise his identity and reduce the chance of being treated as prey.
Successful mating may still carry risk of cannibalism, though it is less frequent than in some true widow species. Females store sperm and can produce multiple egg sacs over successive months.
Brood size varies with female condition and climate. Each sac commonly contains several dozen eggs, and a single female may produce several sacs in a season, resulting in total reproductive output of well over one hundred offspring under favorable conditions.
Ecologically the species is beneficial. It preys on a wide range of small insects and other arthropods, including flies, cockroaches, ants, and occasionally other spiders.
By reducing populations of these organisms in and around human dwellings it provides natural pest control without chemical intervention. It has even been recorded preying on true black widows in shared habitats.
Adult females can live one to three years under protected conditions. Males typically live only a few months after reaching maturity, their primary remaining function being reproduction.
Additional notes of interest include the species cosmopolitan distribution, facilitated by human transport, and its mild venom. Bites are uncommon and produce localized pain comparable to a bee sting in most healthy people. The spiders are non-aggressive and prefer to retreat when disturbed.

Tiny yellow spider (likely a Goldenrod Crab Spider, Misumena vatia, or similar Thomisidae).
Compact body with bright yellow rounded abdomen, short sturdy legs positioned for ambush hunting on surfaces. Small size relative to the green shield bug above.

SUNNY SPIDER - I think this sweet Spider is a type of Orb Weaver. She was almost the size of a dime with a light pink hue to her top middle area. Her legs were striped & a bit translucent. She was enjoying the sunshine as she crawled along the door. #spiderid #whosthatgirl

BIG BOREALIS - I believe this is a female Boreal Tufted Jumping Spider. She was about 11mm long. I wished I had taken a more crisp photo to see the details of her face & eyes. She definitely was sizing me up too. #arachnid #spiderid #PhidippusBorealis #terrificandtufted
