@JacquelynGill My lowest exam score ever was an 8 (eight) percent in Organic Chemistry. With the curve it was *barely* a failing grade. Went on to do a masters and Ph.D. in Bio. I think most passed the class, by grace of the ridiculous curve. Prof was a pretty nice guy, adding to the weirdness!

@BugsOrBust Also talk to students *outside* the lab about what they think the lab is like. Students in the lab might not feel comfortable snitching on their advisor, but other students in the department will often see what's going on and are more willing to spill the tea.

At the end of the day, our pandemic-era work-from-home modelling project about crickets made us rethink something fundamental about acoustic ecology. We're thrilled by the new questions, hypotheses, and avenues of research now open to us.
