When I visited my grandparents in Springmartin West Belfast in the late 70s, 80s and even early 90s we were told to lie or duck down in the back of the car as we drove through Republican controlled areas incase the IRA "got us". Our crime was being Protestants driving to see our family. Thankfully the Belfast Agreement came, the principle of consent was established and the surrender of those committed to violence was won. I'm glad Lola didn't have to grow up with what my family and I did.

@GFROMTHESHANKIL @BBCNolan never heard as much bollix in my life I was there during that time the houses in #Springmartin were riddle with IRA gunfire from Moyard & #Ballymurphy to the extent that houses at bottom of Springmartin Rd were unlivable & knock down never to be re-built to this day #legacy

@brendan309 @GFROMTHESHANKIL @WestBelfastUPRG @NorthUprg @slet_uprg @LisburnUPRG @NB_UPRG there was people shot and killed in #Springmartin at that time one who was a friend 16years old murdered by republican gunmen & a friends mother shot same day and many more injured over those days weeks & months the houses were riddled with gunfire #legacy
