Israel has taken delivery of the INS Drakon, its sixth and largest submarine, after a 23-day journey from Germany to the Haifa Naval Base. Built by German shipbuilder Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, the 74-meter, 2,600-ton Dolphin 2-class submarine cost roughly €500 million, with the German government financing one-third of the cost. The Israeli Navy says the new submarine will increase the number of vessels it can deploy simultaneously and give Israel capabilities that allow it to “do much more” than it has been able to do in the past.
